Volunteer Spotlight – Elizabeth

Our volunteers are a diverse bunch. They come to us from the four corners of the globe, different ethnicities, ages, genders, religions, but the one thing they all share is a desire to help. They are the beating heart of Serve the City. They are dedicated individuals, role models to young people and future leaders. But who are they really? In our volunteer spotlight we introduce you to one of our volunteers and find out some unusual and interesting facts about them.
Let me introduce you to Elizabeth…

Where were you born?

I was born in Durban, South Africa.

What language(s) do you speak?

I speak English and understand Afrikaans proficiently. I have been learning French since I was 14 years old and I am so grateful that I get to practice French everyday in Paris!

What does STCP mean to you?

STCP means community to me.

When you’re not volunteering, how do you spend your time?

You can always find me at the nearest yoga studio.

What is your favorite hobby?

Going to a yoga class or having a coffee date with a friend! I am always happy to get a cappuccino (any time of the day).

What is your favorite meal?

I love smoked salmon! I don’t have a sweet tooth, but I definitely have a salty tooth. Basically, any meal with salmon or something very salty will work for me.

With which person living or deceased would you like to eat that meal?

I would share this meal with my twin sister who currently lives in New York City. She is my favourite person in the world and I will spend any opportunity I can with her.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

My idea of perfect happiness is being with my family. Specifically, sharing a meal with my family at a restaurant close to the beach.

Which living person do you most admire?

I admire my twin sister, she is my biggest inspiration and brings me the greatest joy in life. I hope to be as kind and courageous as she is.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I’ve always dreamed about being on stage and performing even though I don’t sing or act. So, if I could choose a talent it would definitely be having the vocal cords to reach high notes like Mariah Carey.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I’d like to think that my role leading the food distribution program at STCP is one of my greatest achievements. It has been an incredible experience where I have grown through each distribution.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?

I would like to come back as a leopard, enjoying the views of the South African landscape from the top of a shaded tree.
